— PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION

Know what you’re buying
before you buy it.

Buying a used European, luxury, performance or exotic vehicle? A short test drive tells you how a car feels on a good day. An inspection tells you what it is.

— WHY IT MATTERS

A test drive is
twenty minutes of best behavior.

Most problems that cost real money on a used European car do not announce themselves on a short drive around the block. A cooling system seeping slowly. Brake fluid that has never been changed. Suspension components at the end of their life. Stored fault codes cleared the morning of the showing. Tires with four months left. None of it shows up in a walkaround, and all of it becomes yours the moment you sign.

An inspection is the one point in the transaction where you have leverage and the seller does not control the information. It costs a fraction of the smallest surprise repair, and on the cars we see most — BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Land Rover — the difference between a well-kept example and a neglected one is frequently five figures of deferred work that looks identical from the driver’s seat.

— WHAT WE LOOK AT

What the inspection covers.

Scope varies by vehicle and by what the platform allows us to access, but these are the areas we work through.

Computer Diagnostic Scan

All accessible modules scanned for stored and pending faults — including codes that were recently cleared, which is itself informative.

Engine & Drivetrain

Physical inspection for condition, noise, and evidence of prior work or neglect.

Fluid & Leak Inspection

Fluid condition and level, plus tracing any active leaks to their source rather than noting that something is wet.

Suspension & Steering

Bushings, links, bearings, shocks and steering components — and on air-equipped vehicles, whether the system holds ride height.

Brake Condition

Pad and rotor life remaining, caliper condition, and brake fluid state. Often a near-term expense the seller hasn’t mentioned.

Tire Condition & Wear

Tread life, age, matching, and wear pattern — wear patterns reveal alignment and suspension issues the seller may not know about.

Cooling System

Condition, evidence of past failures, and pressure testing where warranted. On many European platforms this is the expensive one.

Visual Underbody Inspection

On a lift, looking at what a driveway walkaround cannot: undertrays, mounting points, corrosion and impact evidence.

Electrical & Accessory Check

Climate control, accessories and electronic systems operated and verified rather than assumed to work.

Road Test

Where appropriate for the vehicle — how it drives, shifts, brakes and tracks under actual load.

Modifications & Prior Repairs

Visible aftermarket work, quality of installation, and evidence of previous repairs. A modification is not automatically bad; a badly executed one is.

A Straight Conversation

Findings explained in plain language, with a view on what matters now, what can wait, and what would concern us.

— WHERE WE ADD THE MOST

European, performance and exotic.

Any shop can check a sedan. The value of a specialist shows up on the cars where the expensive failures are platform-specific.

Knowing a platform changes what an inspection is worth. It is the difference between noting that a cooling system looks acceptable and knowing which cooling components on that specific engine tend to fail, at roughly what mileage, and what it costs when they do. The same applies to timing service history, transmission fluid intervals, and the maintenance items sellers most often skip on each brand.

We also inspect Ferrari, Lamborghini and McLaren vehicles, with one honest caveat: inspection scope depends on the vehicle and the diagnostic access available for that model. Tell us exactly what you are looking at when you call, and we will tell you what we can evaluate before you book rather than after. More on exotic service →

— THE MATH

How a cheap car
becomes an expensive car.

The used European car that is priced noticeably below its peers is usually priced that way for a reason, and the reason is almost always deferred maintenance rather than anything dramatic. Nobody hid a wrecked chassis. Someone simply stopped spending money on the car eighteen months ago.

What an inspection commonly surfaces: active leaks, service intervals that were skipped, tires within months of replacement, brakes near the end, suspension components due, stored warning codes, cooling system concerns, and modifications installed without much care. Individually, none of these are catastrophic. Together, they are frequently larger than the discount that made the car attractive.

Findings work in both directions. Plenty of inspections come back clean, and knowing that lets you buy with confidence instead of hoping. And when they do not come back clean, you either negotiate with a documented list in hand or walk away from a car that was going to cost far more than the inspection did.

Buying an Orlando car from another state?

Central Florida moves a lot of European and exotic cars to buyers who never see them in person. Low rust, year-round driving weather and a deep collector market mean a good share of listings here are sold long distance — which makes an independent set of eyes the only real protection a remote buyer has.

If the vehicle is being sold locally and you are elsewhere, contact us before finalizing the purchase to discuss inspection options for that specific car. What we can arrange depends on the vehicle, the seller and the timing, so it is a conversation rather than a fixed package.

— WHAT AN INSPECTION IS NOT

An inspection is not a guarantee.

A pre-purchase inspection reflects the vehicle’s condition at the time of inspection. It cannot predict every future failure or identify every concealed issue. Components fail without warning, and a seller determined to hide something can sometimes succeed.

What it does is move you from guessing to knowing about everything that can reasonably be observed, measured and scanned. That is a substantially better position than the one most used-car buyers are in, and it is the honest version of what this service delivers.

— INSPECTION FAQ

Questions buyers ask.

What is a pre-purchase inspection?

It is an independent examination of a vehicle you are considering buying, performed before money changes hands. We scan the vehicle's computer systems, inspect mechanical condition, look for leaks and prior repairs, assess tires, brakes, suspension and cooling, and road test where appropriate. You receive a clear picture of what the car is, not what the listing says it is.

How long does a PPI take?

Plan on a few hours, and book ahead. The vehicle needs to be at our shop for the inspection, and a thorough one is not something to squeeze between other jobs. Exotic and higher-complexity vehicles take longer because there is more to scan and more to physically access.

Can you inspect a car I'm buying from a dealer?

Yes, and dealers are generally used to the request. The seller needs to agree to release the vehicle to us for the inspection, or bring it here. A seller who refuses an independent inspection has told you something useful for free.

Do you inspect exotic cars?

Yes, within scope. Inspection depth depends on the specific vehicle and the diagnostic access available for that model. Tell us the year, make and model when you book and we will tell you honestly what we can and cannot evaluate on that particular car before you commit to anything.

Can you inspect a car for me if I live out of state?

Many Florida European and exotic cars are sold to out-of-state buyers, and this is exactly the situation an inspection is built for. If the vehicle is local to Orlando and you are not, call us before finalizing the purchase and we will talk through what is possible for that car and what the inspection will and will not cover.

Will a PPI tell me what the car is worth?

It tells you the vehicle's condition and what work it appears to need, which is the foundation of a valuation rather than the valuation itself. Most buyers use the findings directly in negotiation — a documented list of needed repairs is a far stronger position than a general sense that the car felt tired.

Does a clean inspection mean nothing will go wrong?

No, and any shop that tells you otherwise is overselling. An inspection reflects the vehicle's condition at the time of inspection. It cannot predict every future failure or reveal every concealed issue. What it does is dramatically reduce the odds of buying someone else's deferred maintenance.

How much does an inspection cost?

It depends on the vehicle, because the work involved varies a great deal between a well-documented sedan and an exotic requiring specialized access. Call with the year, make and model and we will quote it before you book.
