Regenerative braking does most of the stopping in a Tesla, so the pads barely wear. The problem is the opposite: calipers and rotors that hardly get used start to stick, rust and grind — especially in Florida humidity. We service Tesla brakes for how they actually fail.
When you lift off the accelerator in a Tesla, the motor slows the car and recharges the battery. That regenerative braking does most of the work, so the friction brakes see very little use. Pads can last a very long time — but brakes that rarely get used don't stay healthy.
Caliper slide pins dry out, pads stick in their brackets, and rotors build up rust in our humidity. The result is grinding, uneven wear, or a brake that drags. Tesla recommends periodic caliper cleaning and lubrication for exactly this reason. We do that service, check the brake fluid, and replace parts only when they actually need it.
Often rust on the rotors or a pad sticking in its bracket from lack of use, not worn-out pads. Worth checking before it damages the rotor.
Visible rust on the rotor surface is common on Teslas. A light film is normal; heavy rust that doesn't clean off with braking needs attention.
A caliper that's sticking can drag, heating one wheel and creating extra dust. It also costs you range.
Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, even if you rarely use the brakes. Tesla calls for checking it periodically.
When a caliper doesn't slide freely, one pad wears faster than the other. Cleaning and lubricating the caliper prevents it.
A soft or long pedal should always be checked promptly, whatever the cause.
We remove the pads, clean the caliper brackets and slide pins, lubricate them properly, and reinstall everything so the brakes move freely. Tesla recommends this service periodically, and it matters more in humid climates.
Because Tesla pads wear slowly, we don't replace parts on a schedule. We measure, and replace pads or rotors only when they're worn, damaged or rusted beyond saving.
A caliper that has started to seize from disuse can sometimes be freed and serviced; sometimes it needs replacing. We tell you which.
Brake fluid pulls in moisture, which lowers its boiling point and can corrode the system from the inside. We test it and replace it when it's due.
A little regular firm braking helps keep rotors clean. We'll explain simple habits that help Tesla brakes stay healthy between services.
Dynasty has raced for more than twenty years, and we still compete across different series. On a race car, brakes are the one system you never compromise on — every caliper, pad and line gets checked before the car goes out.
Your Tesla's brakes may see less use than a race car's, but they still have to work perfectly when you need them. We service them with the same care.
If yours isn't listed, we almost certainly service it — just call. A few we see most for this work:
Brake service on a Tesla is usually modest, but caliper replacement can add up. If you'd rather spread the cost over time, we work with two financing partners — one for good credit with 6-month 0% promotional financing, one for income-based approval with no credit pull.
